Erotica

1965       Directed by Russ Meyer

Erotica is a sextette of six individual vignettes or simple screen plays. The stories, themselves, are tied together in a manner indicating that a motion picture film editor is running the film thru a Moviola; the later, a motion picture film editing machine.

To begin with, Erotica is introduced to the audience with the aid of a very dramatic dissertation on motion picture production; with particular reference to what is to come during the "next 60 minutes." Following this, the film segues into the first screen play

NAKED INNOCENCE A simple story of a beautiful young lady escaping from the stress and strain of the city, to a woodsy dale in the country, beside a gently flowing stream. Here she relaxes, removing her clothes prior to a refreshing swim in the cool stream. The narration, presumably the young ladies', makes reference to her fondness for this way of life; stressing her dislike for the city and what it represents, and contrasting it with her present natural and comforting surroundings.

BEAUTIES, BUBBLES

AND H20 A HUMOROUS SATIRE ON THE MANY WAYS OF TAKING A BATH. A "Brooklyn Plumber" offers the narration, consistent with the continuity of the story. Pictorially, we illustrate our bathing points with the aid of three, attractive young ladies.

THE BEAR AND THE BARE A humorous dissertation on "Bear Ranchin" accomplished with the aid of a very voluptuous girl wearing a bear skin, in contrast with actual scenes of various types of bears.

NUDISTS ON THE HIGH SEAS This vignette takes place on a 60 ft. sailboat in the Pacific Ocean, just off the coast of California. A British narrator discusses the art of sailing; and three "damsel deckhands" tend to serve as illustrations to his comments.

THE NYMPI-IS A story contrasting the employment of the bathtub in contrast with the stand-up shower. Two attractive young ladies serve as training aids. The narration is rendered in complete contrast to what is being seen on the screen. Several voices are used to narrate the sequence; with each one dealing with a different subject . . . that in each instance has no bearing on what is seen on the screen. In addition, this vignette includes a short sequence filmed in an outdoor swimming pool.

THE BIKINI BUSTERS A humorous, yet at times serious dissertation on the history of the bathing-suit. We begin with, after a short illustrated introduction on bathing-suits in general, Eve in the Garden of Eden . . . and how the fig Leaf was thrust upon her! Following this, we consider the cave man era, and its cumbersome animal skin coverings. From here, the film vaults ahead to the 1906's, and its "cover-up" suits. This in turn is contrasted with the "suit-of-the-future," which is 'little more than a whisper! From here, we further study the bathing-suit, and its effect on the male population. The vignette is climaxed by a mad, comical, yet satirical recap of the story.
